So it's been a while
It's been a bit since I've actually updated on what's going on so I guess I should probably do that before people start to worry that I've killed over or lost my mind. I'm back in school, taking three classes this semester (that's the most they'll let grad students up here take). I'm taking a seminar class on modern russian history (not thrilled about that one), a course on the idea of progress in the West, and a course on Crime and Violence in Early Modern Europe (I love this class by the way). Therefore, I spend the vast majority of the time with my ass in the library looking at documents on microfilm or sitting here reading books. My comprehensive exams are in February. For any that don't know what those are, it's a 10 hour long essay test that I have to take to get my masters. If I don't pass, it's two years of grad school for nothing. On top of that, I work one day a week at a counseling center making sure all their reports get typed. On Monday and Thursday nights I coach 5th grade soccer for an hour. With any other free time I have I go to NERO on the weekends, mostly just so I can see friends and hit shit to vent out frustration. I went down to Chicago to go drinking a few weekends ago with Chris I. and had a good time, so hopefully that may become more commonplace. That is my life at this point in time in a nutshell. Hopefully if all goes according to planned, Gabe and I will be moving back to chicago in the summer, hopefully. But that all depends on what school I get into. Ahhh-Choooo!
Nero this weekend was fun, I think I probably had the best time just sitting around and talking to people in all honesty. My foot was killing me and I couldn't really run, so chasing after things was severely limited. Only downside, my allergies blew up half way through the event, and I haven't stopped sneezing since. Yesterday had a good time at Renfaire. Bought a new shirt for Gabe and a new pouch for me for nero. Went out to dinner afterwards at a steakhouse. In general, it was a pretty good weekend. I have two more weeks of work left and then I'm DONE! Yay! My department picnic is on Sunday (yay, that means I can probably get out of helping my mom run her lame church festival), I have to go meet with the new grad. students on Thursday, and classes start Monday the 29th. At least they don't start on my birthday again. That's always harsh. My courses shouldn't be too bad, although I am a little bummed I got stuck taking my seminar on Russian history instead of something that remotely relates to what I want to do with my life. Aside from the seminar, I'm taking a colloquium on the development of western thought and a readings course on Violence and Crime in Early Modern Europe (why couldn't this be my seminar topic?). Going to go buy textbooks tomorrow so I can avoid all the little whiney incoming Freshmen who will remind me that yes, I'm getting old. That and the fact that the store becomes packed and yes, it would take me three hours to get books for my three classes. Yay, school is almost ready to start! I'll probably regret that line in three months when I'm waist deep in applications to PhD programs, studying for my comps, and revising my "thesis" paper for the 20th time. Hmm...
I've been having really odd dreams lately. None of them really scary and stuff like that (I actually haven't had a nightmare in a few years actually, with the exception of the "holy shit my wedding is ruined" type). Just... weird. In addition, I keep feeling like my apartment is perpetually messy. It isn't or usually shouldln't be considering how much time I've spent cleaning in the past few weeks, but every weekend we have people come over and stay and it ends up getting moved around and trashed again. So yah, lately I've been bored off my rear. There's a couple things that I need to get done before school starts (such as doing the paperwork to get my name changed, etc). Can't do any of that until I get to Illinois and yah... gotta do that soon. Work is just work as usual. It's been super slow because well... people don't get as depressed in the summer. I wish I had something to do. I can't really go visit people because I don't really have the money to drive down. Then again, I don't really have the money to go entertaining people either. Gabe and Chris are hanging out, so I'm just trying to make things for me to do... yah, not too successfull at that right now considering there's no school. So yah, much with the being bored.
